Leeds supports Earth Hour
Lights will go out on three University buildings on Saturday 24 March as part of a worldwide campaign.
Decorative external lighting to Parkinson, Laidlaw Library and the multi-storey car park will be turned off from 8.30-9.30pm to show support for Earth Hour. Some lighting will be left on for safety and security.
Coordinated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Big Lights Out campaign is designed to symbolically highlight accelerating climate change and the threat of biodiversity loss to our planet.
As well as switching off lights on Saturday, the University is pledging to reduce energy use in our labs and libraries by replacing older equipment with more efficient models. And Leeds is also working to reduce heat loss throughout our buildings so we use less energy all year round, as part of its sustainability strategy.

* The Parkinson building will be illuminated red on the same day, as part of World TB Day, but these lights will be turned off during Earth Hour.
