The Academy consists of 50 senior doctors from across Europe.  Academics are invited to join on the basis of their distinguished contribution to the field of rehabilitation medicine.

The Academy promotes education and research across Europe with the aim of improving all areas of rehabilitation.  It acts as a reference point in scientific, education and research matters, exchanging ideas and information and facilitating the exchange of doctors between different countries.

Professor O'Connor said: “I am honoured to have been elected to the Academy.  I see it as a recognition of all the collaborative work in rehabilitation science which takes place at Leeds, encompassing robotics research, clinical trials and outcome measurement.”
