Emeritus Professor Henry Stuart Malcolm Crabb

Colleagues will be sorry to hear of the death of Emeritus Professor Stuart Crabb, former Head of Department of Restorative Dentistry at the Dental School.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Guy’s Hospital Dental School in 1944, Stuart spent time in the Royal Air Force, in private practice and at his alma mater before moving to a lectureship in the University of Bristol. He was awarded a master’s degree in 1953 and a doctorate in 1959. In 1961 he was appointed to the Chair of Conservative Dentistry at Leeds and in 1974 became the head of the newly-formed Department of Restorative Dentistry. During his time at Leeds, Stuart also served on numerous committees in both University and hospital spheres before retiring in 1985, after twenty four years’ service.

A celebration of Stuart’s life will be held at 11am on Thursday 21 December, at All Saints’ Church at 1 Aberford Rd, Barwick in Elmet, Leeds LS15 4EA, on which day the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in his memory.
