Following acceptance of the final offer, the University is making arrangements to implement the 2017/18 pay increase for all staff employed on the University salary scales.

The base pay increase is 1.7% on points 17 and above on the pay spine, and a larger percentage on lower points. See the HR website for details of the new salary scale.

Increases will be processed for September pay (for both mid-month and month-end payees), with amounts backdated to 1 August 2017.

For University of Leeds staff employed on the University salary scales this is an annual increase of:

  • at least 1.7% on base pay;
  • higher than 1.7% for staff on points 2 to 16, impacting on grades 2, 3 and 4, benefiting over 1300 people;
  • at least 4.7% for staff receiving service increments this year (1.7% base pay increase + 3% service increment), benefiting 49% of staff, almost 3500 people.

For staff who are awarded additional increments based on their performance, their annual increase will be at least a further 3% higher than the figures above.

All trades unions recognised at Leeds (UCU, Unison, Unite) conducted member consultations this summer and accepted the final offer, which had been made on 27 April 2017.

The New Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff (JNCHES) has agreed to take forward joint work to progress specific matters of mutual interest:

  • the gender pay gap
  • casual employment.

At Leeds, we welcome this focus and already have ongoing work to address both issues. Further communication will follow to engage colleagues and their representatives in these matters.

If you have any queries about this pay award, please contact your HR manager.
