We are still bike-friendly!

Last year, the University was given a silver CityConnect accreditation for being a bike-friendly organisation and we have been given the same award again this year.

We were the highest scoring bike-friendly organisation in the West Yorkshire region due to initiatives like our campus Bike Hub, excellent bike parking facilities, cycle to work scheme, staff access to hire bikes and dedicated contacts for cycling in the Sustainability Service.

This year, Romain Cames (Bike Hub Coordinator) and Claire Booth (Sustainability Project Officer) were delighted to attend the Bike friendly re-launch event in June along with other bike friendly partners including Leeds Beckett University and Jacobs.

We were only eight marks from being the first gold accredited regional organisation so we are focusing our efforts on the areas which were highlighted for improvement such as availability of cycle training and more lockable bike parking to aim for Gold!

Dr Bike sessions

Demonstrating our commitment to being bike-friendly, the Bike Hub will be offering staff the opportunity to organise Dr Bike sessions with colleagues, following the success of the service on Clean Air Day.

Whether your bike needs a quick check-up or you are keen to learn some bike maintenance basics, you can register your interest by emailing transport@leeds.ac.uk. Please state the number of attendees (minimum of 5), your preferred date and campus location (your ‘usual’ cycle space facility, or the Bike Hub is suggested).

If you would like to find out more about any of our other bike-friendly initiatives on campus, please contact the email above or call into the Bike Hub (opening hours: Tuesday –Thursday, 12pm to 4pm).
