The Sport and Physical Activity staff and students were highly rewarded at the inaugural Yorkshire University Sports Awards.
Designed to celebrate the success of sporting departments across the region, the evening was made up of six award categories. Leeds had five teams shortlisted in four different categories:
- Leeds Varsity in Best Event
- Gryphons Abroad in Great Volunteering
- Eamonn Laird and the Weetwood Ground staff team in Great People
- The Womens Hockey club for Team of the Year.
Womens hockey received another trophy for their shelf this year, winning their category primarily due to their fantastic fundraising efforts and giving back to the local community.
Leeds achieved first place in the Great People award with the ground staff being acknowledged for their continued hard efforts to keep our facilities up to a high standard which can often be overlooked.
Eamonn was also awarded highly commended for his work supporting clubs particularly around the theme of mental health.
A successful evening for all involved!
