Statute VII update - 9 May

Following the Council meeting on 26 April, the University has been continuing to seek an agreed position with UCU on reform of Statute VII to meet the Council deadline of 5 May.

In line with the approach taken during a recent Acas meeting, the University proposed a significant number of further enhancements to the procedures in order to address every concern raised by the University and College Union (UCU).

Despite this effort, we have been advised by the UCU today that they are not prepared to agree to the full package of proposals.

Given that agreement on final drafting amendments cannot be reached, we will now be putting forward an improved statute to Council for approval, in line with the timetable and principles it has set us. This will include all of the safeguards proposed to UCU.
