Professor Stephen J Morley

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 28 April 2017, of Professor Stephen Morley, Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences.

Stephen Morley was one of the longest serving University staff in Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences: appointed as a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology in 1984, he became a Senior Lecturer in 1989, and a Professor in 1996.  He was also a former director of the doctoral programme in Clinical Psychology and an Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist with the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust. His focus throughout his career was the psychological aspect of chronic pain and his internationally renowned research in this area was instrumental in evaluating the efficacy and effectiveness of treatment for chronic pain, as well as the impact of pain on the self and identity.

The funeral service will be held at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 9 May at St. Edmund’s Church, Leeds, LS8 1JN.  Family flowers only. There is a JustGiving page for St George’s Crypt in Stephen’s memory.

The flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast on Tuesday as a mark of respect, and an obituary is being prepared.
