Statute VII: Update

On 20 April, the University and UCU will meet with the independent conciliation service, Acas, in a final attempt to resolve the current dispute over changes to Statute VII.

The University originally offered to go to Acas on 27 February and UCU (University and College Union) accepted this offer on 28 March.  Senior university staff made clear that they were available for talks on every working day after that date in order to allow plenty of time in advance of the final decision by Council, the University’s governing body, on 26 April.

In the event, UCU told us that 20 April was the earliest date on which it could field a negotiating team and as such, we meet on that date. In parallel, and in advance of this meeting, UCU has also served notice on the University of its intention to ballot for industrial action, starting on the day we meet with Acas.

Further updates will be provided as matters develop.

Statute VII sets out the procedures for academic and professional and managerial staff for the resolution of grievances, and for dismissal, removal from office, and redundancy. Further background on the issue can be found on the In Depth page of For Staff.
