Mr Jonathan Stephenson

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 3 March 2017, of Jonathan Stephenson, Technician in the Faculty of Engineering, at Kirkwood Hospice following a long battle with cancer, aged 53.

He joined the University on 2 November 1987 as a Technician in the Thermodynamics Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering, being responsible for commissioning and developing many pieces of research and teaching apparatus. When the Formula SAE Racing Car project was launched in 1997, Jonathan became the Project Co-ordinator, helping to secure a 5th place overall in the international competition in Japan in 2004, as well as numerous class wins in the USA and Australia. He latterly worked in the new Energy building of Chemical and Process Engineering, developing engine test facilities.

Jonathan will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues both at Leeds and at the numerous outside companies and contacts he dealt with over the years. Our deepest sympathy and condolences go to his mother, sister and three children for their sad loss.

The funeral will take place at St. Paul’s Church, Drighlington on Tuesday 14 March at 2.30pm (Whitehall Road, Drighlington, BD11 1LJ).
