Take the pledge for Unity

Students and staff are being asked to help create five ‘Unity pledge’ artworks by leaving their handprint on special canvasses that will be touring campus.

The Unity Canvas Roadshow will ask people to take a ‘Unity Pledge’ by making a verbal commitment to unity, acknowledging shared responsibilities and duties towards all the people who work and study at and visit the University.

"Our responsibilities entail being kind to each other, treating each other with respect and dignity, serving as a guardian for everyone, so being proactive in our humanity towards each other,” explains Farhat Yaqoob, from the University Chaplaincy.

"In essence our aim is to emphasise the shared values and commitment to inclusivity of all our staff and students, past, present and prospective.  We’re really looking forward to getting out there and encouraging thousands of people to take the Unity pledge.

The canvases will be at the following places on campus:

Tuesday 28 February 12-2pm - Room 6, Leeds University Union
Thursday 2 March 12-2pm – Wilson Room, Emmanuel Centre
Monday 6 March 12-2pm – Level 7 Airport Lounge, Worsley Building
Tuesday 7 March 12-2pm – Foyer, Leeds University Business School
Thursday 9 March 12-2pm – Level 12 Common Room, Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Building

At the events people taking the pledge will also be able to make donations to fund Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as Doctors Without Borders).  Once finished, the Unity canvases will be displayed in prominent spaces on campus.
