Lesley Backhouse

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 31 December 2016, of Lesley Backhouse, former Personal Assistant to successive Heads of School within the Faculty of Biological Sciences.

Lesley joined the then Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in September 1992 working principally with Professor Tony Turner providing senior administrative support in his various roles, especially as Head of School from 1996-2004. She very effectively supported the School through a series of structural changes including merger with the Department of Microbiology and integration into a newly formed Faculty of Biological Sciences. From 2004 Lesley worked for a series of Heads of School in what became the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology.  She took early retirement in 2010.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday 17 January 2017 at 2.30pm at Lofthouse Parish Church, Leeds Road, Lofthouse, Wakefield, WF3 3LS, and afterwards at Salute Restaurant, The White Swan, Church Street, Rothwell, LS26 0QL.

The family have asked for charitable donations in lieu of flowers.  The flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in Lesley’s memory on that day.

An obituary is being prepared.
