New Chief Executive appointed at Sir Henry Royce Institute

The Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials, of which Leeds is a founding partner, has appointed a leading materials scientist and engineer as Chief Executive.

Dr Andrew Hosty joins the Institute having previously worked for Morgan Advanced Materials Plc, where he was Chief Operating Officer.

A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, Dr Hosty has more than 25 years’ experience of the commercial sector with main board experience of FTSE 250, SmallCap and private businesses and has worked at all stages of business growth and economic cycles.

He will be tasked with ensuring the Royce Institute becomes a world-leading centre for advanced materials research and commercialisation.

Professor Lisa Roberts, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation, said: “This is an exciting appointment for the Institute. Andrew brings with him a wealth of expertise and experience, and I’m sure he will help accelerate the growth of the Institute as a world-leading research base in advanced materials science.”

The Institute has its hub at the University of Manchester and spokes at the founding partners, one of which is Leeds. Other partners include the universities of Sheffield, Liverpool, Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College London, as well as the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE) and the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL).
