Ambassador's visit marks strengthening ties with Mexico
The University recently welcomed the Mexican Ambassador to the UK, Diego Gómez Pickering, and Evelyn Vera-Barreto, Head of Education and International Cooperation, onto campus.

Ambassador Gómez Pickering was keen to visit Leeds to further develop the strong links that already exist between the University and Mexico.
The department of Spanish, Portugese and Latin American Studies hosted a networking event in University House, where the Delegation were met by a range of academics from across the University and Mexican students who are currently studying at Leeds.
Head of School of Languages Cultures and Societies, Dr Matthew Treherne, welcomed the Ambassador to the University, commenting on the longstanding link between the department and Mexico. Leeds will celebrate the centenary of teaching Spanish in 2018 and this programme remains intimately linked with Mexico, due to the presence of academics who are specialists in Mexican culture and history.
The Ambassador later enjoyed a tour of the National Facility for Innovative Robotic Systems in the School of Mechanical Engineering, followed by a visit to the Centre for Integrated Energy Research, hosted by Professor William Gale.
The University has recently signed an agreement with CONACyT (The Mexican National Ministry for Science and Technology) to be part of a consortium together with Durham University, to receive funded Masters and PhD students in energy-related subjects.
Through these initiatives, the University hopes to continue to develop its recruitment and research links with Mexico.
