Following a recent further period of staff consultation, Senate agreed in principle that the Faculties of Arts and PVAC should be integrated to create a single faculty with a single dean from 1 August 2016.

Senate agreed that the academic case for the new faculty was compelling and that it would help schools thrive in an increasingly competitive market, as well as generate new activities which will contribute to the strategic goals of the wider University in research and innovation and student education.

It was agreed that rather than implement the change immediately, it should be phased in over a two year transitional period, during which the operational details of the new faculty would be agreed and implemented.

The tile of the new faculty is still under discussion – a proposal is due to come to the July Senate -  and further thought is being given to the original proposal that there should be two deputy (or associate) deans, but arrangements are in hand to proceed quickly with the appointment of a new dean to lead the faculty. An internal advertisement for the role is due to appear shortly.
