Update to Internet Explorer 11

The latest version of Internet Explorer – IE 11 – is being rolled out to colleagues across the University.

The software will be released on Monday 1 February and during the course of the week it should become available for staff to install. Look out for the following pop up message near the bottom of your computer screen, which will let you know that the upgrade is available:

New software available

Once it has appeared, simply click on the message bubble (or the icon) and follow the instructions.

A guide is available with more detailed instructions.

From Monday 22 February colleagues still using Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10) will receive a prompt to accept the upgrade. This can be deferred up to three times to allow the installation to take place at a more convenient time. After this, the upgrade will happen automatically.

The upgrade is taking place because Microsoft recently ended support for all older versions of IE. This means that the current IE 10 installed on staff PCs will no longer receive security updates so, in order to protect staff and students, we are upgrading to the latest version. This also establishes consistency, as IE 11 is already installed on all centrally-managed IT Clusters.
