Professor Barry Cooper

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 26 October 2015, of Barry Cooper, Professor of Pure Mathematics.

Barry was appointed as a Lecturer in the School of Mathematics in 1969, being made Reader in Mathematical Logic in 1991, and Professor of Pure Mathematics in 1996.

During his 46 years at the University, Barry developed an international reputation as a computability theorist, particularly through his pioneering interdisciplinary work and his interest in the computational content of causality in ‘real world’ physical, mental and social contexts. He made a significant contribution to the School of Mathematics and was highly regarded by colleagues and students alike.

Funeral details will be published as soon as they are known and an obituary is being prepared.
