Emeritus Professor Peter Knowles
Colleagues will be very sorry to hear that Emeritus Professor Peter Knowles has died in a tragic road traffic accident.
Peter was a member of the academic staff in the Faculty of Biological Sciences from 1967 until his retirement in 2002. He will be remembered by his many collaborators, mentees and friends for his joie de vivre, boundless energy and enthusiasm as well as his thoughtful approach to and enjoyment of science. In particular he was always keen to promote the aspirations of young scientists. In his retirement Peter continued to play an active part in research and was a co-author on a paper published earlier this year. A University obituary is being prepared for publication in due course.
Peter is survived by his wife, Gill, who was also injured in the accident, and their son, Sandy.
