The University won the bid to host a team over 90 other venues across England and Wales.

Forty one venues will welcome the 20 competing teams over the course of next year’s tournament.

This is not the first time the University has hosted a sports team. The Chinese Olympic table tennis team and the Canadian Paralympic rugby team both practiced on campus in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics.

Head of Sport and Physical Activity Rob Wadworth is looking forward to playing host again.

He said: “We look forward to Scotland’s team coming to the University ahead of rugby union’s showpiece event, the Rugby World Cup. We believe we can provide the facilities and services to support a successful tournament.”

The USA and Canadian teams will also be staying in bases around Leeds.

Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Trinity University, the John Charles Centre for Sport and West Park Leeds Rugby Club were also successful in securing team bases for the 2015 tournament.

2015’s Rugby World Cup will take place between the 18 September and 31 October.

Leeds United’s Elland Road football ground will host two matches, the Americas 1 vs Scotland and Americas 2 vs Italy qualifiers.
