Professor John Macklin

Colleagues will be very sorry to learn of the death, earlier this month, of Professor John Macklin.

John came to Leeds from the University of Hull in 1988 as Cowdray Professor and Head of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, a post he held until 1997.  During his time at Leeds he was also Research Dean for the Faculty of Arts, Director of the Research School in the Humanities and, between 1999 and 2001, he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning.

John left the University in 2001 to take up the post of Principal and Vice-Chancellor at Paisley University.  At the time of his retirement in 2013, John was Head of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Glasgow.
