Leeds International Summer School (LISS) celebrates Le Tour

This year 55 students have signed up to take part in the Leeds International Summer School (LISS).

LISS offers an opportunity for international and EU students to live and learn in Leeds for four weeks, while earning up to 20 credits towards their home degree.  LISS will run from 4 July to 3 August this year.

LISS students will have the opportunity not only to experience student life in Leeds, but also the Grand Depart of the Tour de France which takes place on the second day of LISS.  The students will walk to Leeds City Centre and watch the parade leave from the Town Hall in the morning, followed by the official start a couple of hours later.

In addition to this, one of the existing LISS modules has been altered this year to celebrate British cycling and the Tour coming to Yorkshire.  ‘Sport in the UK: Health and Performance Issues’ will have a special focus on cycling with topics including the biomechanics of cycling and the ethics of the sport as well as practical elements such as bike maintenance and even a spin class at the Edge.

All LISS modules are complemented by experiential field trips and for this module the students will visit the Team GB’s training grounds; the Manchester Velodrome at the National Cycling Centre for an exclusive tour of the facilities.
