Supporting mature and part-time students

Share your examples of good practice in supporting mature and part-time students with the Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) and the Leeds University Union (LUU).

The LLC and LUU have been working together with mature and part-time students and Student Support Officers to discuss their experiences and the challenges they face.  The aim of this work is to create a guide to good practice and training for student-facing staff.

Do you have examples of good practice that you could share?  For example:

  • Does your department recognise students with dependants and ensure that they are matched with placements close to their home address?
  • Do personal tutors adapt their meetings and questions for mature students?
  • How does your department work with mature students who have previous career experience and skill sets, financial hardship, childcare or academic challenges?
If you could contribute to the work being done by LLC and LUU, please email Sarah Charlesworth, LUU Student Engagement Coordinator.
