Newly-formed stage@leedscompany presents its first performance
The stage@leedscompany is putting on the critically acclaimed 'The Laramie Project' at the University from 13 to 15 February.
Recently created by stage@leeds Artistic Director Steve Ansell, the stage@leedscompany is open to all students and provides weekly practical sessions in theatre skills for all members. The Laramie Project will be its first production.
About the production
On 7 October 1998 a young gay man was discovered bound to a fence in the hills outside Laramie, Wyoming, savagely beaten and left to die in an act of brutality that shocked America. Matthew Shepard's death became a symbol of intolerance, but for the people of Laramie the event was deeply personal, and it is their real voices that are head in this piece of verbatim theatre.
The Laramie Project is performed to coincide with LGBT History Month.
