Your questions answered on lecture capture at Leeds
The University is investing over £2 million in a lecture capture and multimedia management system. Find out what this means for you and your students.
Mediasite by Sonic Foundry, a world leader in video content management, has been chosen as the preferred supplier for the new system, which will allow:
- automated recording of scheduled teaching sessions
- easy pausing of the recording during a session
- review and editing by staff before publication
- ad hoc recording of guest lectures
Work is underway to implement the system by September 2014, and there will be a programme of training to support staff preparing to use the new system. A new Policy on Audio or Video Recording for Educational Purposes has been published, setting out a framework governing use of the system.
Staff and students can find out more and ask questions about what lecture capture will mean for them at any of the following open Q&A sessions:

In these meetings Professor Neil Morris, Director of Digital Learning, and Alice Smart, LUU's Student Education Officer, will be on hand to answer your questions. Colleagues in the Staff and Departmental Development Unit (SDDU) and the University Communications team will also be available to answer questions about training, support and communication.
There is no need to book a place in advance to attend.
In addition to these Q&A sessions, the SDDU, in collaboration with faculty Blended Learning Academic Champions, The Digital Learning Team and the VLE team, has created a new animation and online resource to support the Digital Learning Programme.
This 'Changing Landscapes' website introduces the new opportunities for teaching and research afforded by the Digital Learning Programme and includes:
- an animated overview of the changing digital landscape
- examples of ways in which technology can be used to enhance teaching and communication of research excellence
- case studies from the University of Leeds
- evidence and research in these areas
- information about individual technologies
- institutional policies, expectation and legal frameworks
