“After much careful thought I’ve decided to 'retire' from the University when I reach age 60, i.e. at end of May 2014," said Matthew.  "It’s been an enormous privilege to have been the HR Director here over the last 16 years and I have really valued the friendships and professional relationships that have made this period such a fulfilling one.

"My intention is to put together a portfolio of interesting and “completely different” things to keep me busy, starting with my appointment this month as a Lay Member of the NHS Blood and Transplant Cardiothoracic Advisory Group."

The Vice-Chancellor, Sir Alan Langlands, said: "Matthew has served the University with great professionalism and humanity for sixteen years and he will be much missed.  Human resources management has developed extremely well under his leadership with important advances in employee resourcing, employee relations, and training and development.  I thank him for all that he has achieved and wish him a happy retirement and all good wishes for the future."
