New IT website now launched

The new website replaces helpdesk.leeds.ac.uk and much of the content on iss.leeds.ac.uk, and has been designed in consultation with staff and students across campus.

The website has been developed as part of the One IT programme.  One IT is fundamentally about providing the information and technology to enable the University of Leeds to achieve its strategic objectives in the most effective way.  You can find out more about this innovative programme on the new website.

Some of the key things you asked for were:

  • A comprehensive search facility – the content on the new site has all been carefully tagged to improve search results, and you can restrict your search to certain categories
  • Ability to get straight to the content you need – as well as the ‘quick links’ section, the navigation is clear and easy to use. At the start of every section you’ll find a brief description of the pages, so you can get straight to the right document.
  • Checklists and guides for new people – in the ‘starting points’ section you’ll find all the IT information new staff, students and visitors will need and we’ll be developing more starting points in the coming months. For example, one idea we’ve received recently is to have one for new PhD supervisors.  If you have any ideas for new ‘starting points’ please let us know.

The site has been developed to be completely device independent, so you’ll be able to get help whether you’re using a PC, tablet, phone or any other device.

This is first phase of the website development and we need your input to make it better.  Do have a look, and let us know what you think by emailing OneIT@leeds.ac.uk or by using the feedback form on the site.

During 2014 we’ll be adding more content and developing more functionality – watch this space!
