Professor wins Georg-Vogelpohl Medal
Emeritus Professor Duncan Dowson has won the medal for 2013 from the German Tribology Society.
The annual award is is made in the field of tribology - the science of the mechanisms of friction, lubrication, and wear of interacting surfaces that are in relative motion - for "outstanding contributions to development, application or dissemination of tribological knowledge".The award is named after Professor Vogelpohl, an esteemed German mechanical and lubrication engineer who Professor Dowson met back in 1963.
Professor Dowson is the third recipient from the UK and received his award in Gottingen in October 2013.
