Emeritus Professor Donald Lee

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 26 September 2013, of Emeritus Professor Donald Lee, former Professor of Agricultural Zoology.

Donald took up his post at the University of Leeds in 1971 in the then Department of Pure and Applied Zoology (latterly Pure and Applied Biology).  He was Head of Department between 1978 and 1983, and again between 1990 and 1994.

He was appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor in 1987 in an era when the University had only one such post-holder. He retired in 1996 at which time the title and status of Emeritus Professor was bestowed upon him.

Following a private funeral, a Service of Thanksgiving will be held at 12.30pm on Friday 11 October 2013 at Blanchland Abbey Church, Blanchland, Northumberland, DH8 9SP.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

As there may be a number of colleagues wishing to attend the Thanksgiving Service from the Leeds area, could I please invite you to contact Adele Laverton in the University Secretary’s Office if you would like to be included in the co-ordination of transport requirements (a.l.laverton@adm.leeds.ac.uk; 0113 3434011).

In Donald’s memory, the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast on the day of the funeral.

An obituary is being prepared.
