Roger Leighton

We are very sorry to let colleagues know that Mr Roger Leighton, Examinations Invigilator, died on 15 August 2013.

Roger, who completed his Graduate Certificate of Education at Leeds in 1970, was for many years an Assistant Headmaster at St Bede’s Catholic Grammar School, Bradford. Following his retirement, he joined the University’s invigilation team in 2006. He supervised examinations principally in the Great Hall, the School of Dentistry and the School of Medicine.

Roger was an exemplary invigilator, unfailingly thorough and never disconcerted by the unexpected. Kindly and personable, he also made many friends among his fellow-invigilators and in those areas of the University with which his work brought him into contact.

Roger is survived by his wife Susan, son Richard, and daughter Ruth.

The funeral will be held at 11am on Thursday, 29 August 2013, at Rawdon Crematorium, Leeds Road, Rawdon, Leeds LS19 6JP. Those attending are invited to join the family afterwards at Rawdon Conservative Club.

There are to be family flowers only at the funeral. Donations may be made to the Take Heart charity.

The flag will be flown at half-mast on the Parkinson Building next Thursday, in Roger Leighton’s memory.
