Tony Geesin

We are sorry to let members know that Mr Tony Geesin, former Technician in Information Systems Services (ISS), died on 11 July 2013.

Tony joined the then University Computing Service (UCS) as Help Desk Team Leader in April 1995.  He brought with him twenty years’ experience in a variety of IT roles in industry and commerce, during which he progressed from trainee operator to IT manager with a large company.

An immediate success in his appointment at Leeds, Tony put in place a number of new processes and procedures designed to enhance the effectiveness of the Help Desk in providing front-line support to users.  Little more than two years later, he assumed substantial additional responsibilities when he was also made UCS Shop Manager.  He proved equally effective in this role, extending the range of products available and substantially increasing turnover and profit.  Highly proficient and personable, he went on to become a key member of the ISS Sales Team and was a widely-liked and respected colleague. Sadly, Tony fell ill in 2009 and retired at the end of that year.

The Funeral Service will take place at 1.00pm on Tuesday 23 July 2013, at St Peter’s Church, Church Street, Gildersome, LS27 7AF, followed by cremation at Cottingley Hall Crematorium.  There are to be no flowers but donations may be made to Myeloma UK. Tony’s family request that those attending the service wear black and white.

In memory of Tony, the flag will be flown at half-mast on the Parkinson Building on 23 July.
