Mrs Doris Goerner

We are very sorry to let members know that Mrs Doris Goerner, former Lecturer in Woven Textile Design in the Department of Textile Industries, died on 4 July 2013.

Mrs Goerner took up her post in 1979, by which time she had acquired an international reputation as a textile designer. Her designs and fabrics were used by leading furniture manufacturers and were also to be found in hotels, theatres, aeroplanes (including Concorde) and railway carriages. Mrs Goerner also created art fabrics and tapestries that were regularly exhibited throughout Europe.

The wealth of expertise and knowledge Mrs Goerner brought to Leeds did much to enrich her teaching. During her time at the University she produced two volumes designed to assist students and practitioners of textile design. She retired in 1993.

The funeral will be held in Germany on 22 July 2013, when the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast, in Mrs Goerner’s memory.

A full obituary is being produced.
