The Francis Inquiry into care failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust has major implications for healthcare professionals, patients and carers. There has been a great deal of media coverage about the inquiry’s findings. Governmental responses have indicated that individual blame is inappropriate and that the problem resides with culture. Not everybody has agreed. As health organisations focus on what they will do to improve culture in the wake of the report, will the Francis report make a difference to the NHS in the long term? Will it change culture and how will healthcare professionals respond?

Previously Chief Executive at leading independent think tank the King’s Fund, Niall Dickson is an experienced health journalist; a  former Editor of ‘Therapy Weekly’ and ‘Nursing Times’ and former Health Correspondent, Chief Social Affairs Correspondent and more recently Social Affairs Editor for the BBC, focusing mainly on Radio 4's Today programme and the Ten O'clock News on BBC 1.
