Students to perform at West Yorkshire Playhouse

The School of Performance and Cultural Industries has teamed up with West Yorkshire Playhouse to create an original piece of performance for the Playhouse’s festival of new work, Transform.

Entitled Navigators, the production has been devised by a company of 20 students, led by the Playhouse’s staff director, Andrew Whyment.  It has been  inspired by the work of the innovative company, Invisible Flock, who experiment with performance, digital technologies, games playing and installations to create extraordinary theatrical experiences.

The objective of Transform is ‘to create extraordinary pieces of work with artists who push at the edges of practice’ in a mission to reimagine what theatre can do. The idea behind Navigators is to link the Playhouse to four different productions that are taking place in sites outside the building – in a tower block, a market, a city centre street and a museum. The company will lead the audience on four unique journeys connecting the Playhouse to the performances, with surprising encounters on the way!

To participate, arrive at West Yorkshire Playhouse at the specified times where you will be guided, with the performance culminating right at the place you need to be.

Performances will take place throughout the duration of the Transform festival which will take place from Tuesday 16 April to Saturday 27 April.

Meet at West Yorkshire Playhouse:

Week 1:  8pm

Week 2:  6.30pm and 8pm

Participation is free and can be booked via the Playhouse Box Office on 0113 213 7700.
