Herbert Read in his books: A talk by Chris Sheppard
Chris Sheppard, Brotherton Fellow and Former Head of Leeds University Special Collections, will talk about Sir Herbert Read's extensive library in an event to be held on Saturday 6 April.
Read was a student at the University between 1912 and 1915 who became one of the leading critics of art in Britain in the middle 20th century. His fascinating library was transferred complete and intact from his Yorkshire home at Stonegrave to the Library's Special Collections nearly 20 years ago.
Artists books are just one element in a personal library where the extraordinary and the everyday combined to inform Reads work and record his friendships.
This event will take place:
On: Saturday 6 April
At: 3-4pm
In: The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery
The event is free and all are welcome.
No booking necessary.
