Introduction to news media for scientists and engineers

The Science Media Centre is offering an 'Introduction to News Media' session to scientists and engineers at two venues in Yorkshire this spring.

Sessions are taking place on:

Friday 26 April 2013 - at the University of Sheffield

Thursday 2 May 2013 - at the Food and Environment Research Agency, York

The sessions last half a day and offer a beginner’s guide to the media, giving an insight into the way the news media works and highlighting how and why scientists and journalists should engage with each other. You will get a tour of some of the key issues, including:

• how and why scientists and journalists should engage with each other
• top tips for dealing with the media
• how journalists find stories
• the role of the press office
• the role of the news editor
