LUU Hiking Club incident

Colleagues may have seen news coverage yesterday afternoon and evening of an expedition by Leeds University Union Hiking Club to the Cairngorms.

The expedition involved 35 members of the Club, which has both student and non-student members.

A group of six Club members got into difficulties on Sunday. Five were airlifted to safety yesterday (Monday 11 February). Sadly one member, Graham Connell, was found dead.

Mr Connell was a former student of the University, who completed a physics programme in 2004, gaining a Diploma in Higher Education.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

The University counselling services are working with Leeds University Union to offer support to students who have been affected by this tragedy.
