Robert Welch
We are very sad to let colleagues know of the death of Professor Robert (Bob) Welch who was a Lecturer in the School of English from 1973 to 1984.
The Head of the School of English, Professor John Whale writes:
A very popular colleague and tutor, Bob added substantially to our expertise and reputation in Irish Literature. He moved to Coleraine in 1984 to take up the post of Professor of English and Head of the School of English, Media, and Theatre Studies in the University of Ulster. In a distinguished career, his work spanned substantial scholarship and creative writing. He published three volumes of poems, three novels, a collection of short stories, and a play. Last year, his memoir of the tragic life of his son Egan, Kicking the Black Mamba: Life, Alcohol and Death, attracted significant media attention.
