'From Poverty to Power' book launch

All are welcomed to the launch of From Poverty to Power (2nd edition), a book written by Oxfam GB’s Senior Strategic Advisor, Duncan Green, to be hosted by the Centre for Global Development.

Rooted in decades of Oxfam’s experience across the developing world, Duncan Green’s book, From Poverty to Power, argues that a radical redistribution of power, opportunities, and assets is needed to break the cycle of poverty and inequality and to give poor people power over their own destinies. The forces driving this transformation are active citizens and effective states.

The book has received great acclaim since it was first published in 2008, and it has been translated into Korean, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

The book has been updated throughout with the latest statistics and with a new section summarising the human impact of the global financial and food price chaos of the last 5 years. It looks at new thinking and research in relation to the Arab Spring and climate change, and incorporates large amounts of analysis from the From Poverty to Power blog.

The launch will take place:

On:  Thursday 31 January

At:   5-7pm

In:   Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre, Michael Sadler Building

A book signing will follow the presentation by Duncan Green.

This event is free and all are welcome.
