Following discussions last week at TSEB and FTSECs the Learning and Teaching Support Office can confirm details of the Leeds for Life Higher Education Achievement Record (LfL HEAR).

From June 2013 the University will provide the LfL HEAR to all graduating UG students. The LfL HEAR will be an enhanced replacement for the current Academic Transcript, presenting a more complete summary of the academic and co-curricular achievements of our graduates. The LfL HEAR will enable our graduates to present a more rounded picture of their achievements to potential employers and will provide prompts for greater in-depth discussion of interests and skills.

The LfLHEAR adheres to the principles of the Higher Education Achievement Report (http://www.hear.ac.uk/) being widely implemented across the UK HE Sector. The document that will be presented to students at graduation will have two parts: 1) the academic transcript; 2) an automatically generated record of any University validated achievements, prizes or awards the student may have accrued (for example being an elected member of a student society, being a Course Representative or having been awarded funding through the Leeds for Life Foundation).

To encourage students to reflect on the breadth of their achievements, the Leeds for Life personal tutoring web-forms for finalists are being amended to invite students to write a personal statement which they can use to supplement their LfL HEAR.  We hope that students will take the opportunity to review this statement with their personal tutor and, if they plan to use it in job applications, with a Careers Advisor.

For further information on the LfL HEAR visit the HEAR website or contact Anthea Connolly in the Learning and Teaching Support Office.
