Mrs Maureen Thompson

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the death, on 30 November 2012, of Mrs Maureen Thompson.

Maureen was appointed as Secretary to the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Polymer Science and Technology (within the School of Physics and Astronomy) in 1990.  During her period of employment, and until her retirement in 2005, she also acted as PA to Professor Tom McLeish, who was Head of the Polymers and Complex Fluids Group (now the Soft Matter Physics Group).  Maureen was a cornerstone of the IRC and the Polymer Group and instrumental in arranging conferences, meetings related to various projects and the prestigious Polymer Showcase meetings around the country.  She had an interesting and varied working career and thoroughly enjoyed her work here at the University.

Maureen is survived by husband Jack, daughter Victoria, son-in-law Spencer, and grandson Daniel.    

The funeral service will be held at 2.20 pm on Monday 10th December at Cottingley Crematorium when the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in Maureen’s memory.
