New leadership arrangements for Dental Hospital and Dental School

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the University have announced new leadership arrangements to be implemented when the present Dean/Director, Dr Margaret Kellett, finishes her term in 2013.

For many years the Leeds Dental Institute has been led by a single individual acting both as the Dean of the University Dental School and the Director of the NHS Dental Hospital. From 2013, the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust will appoint an individual to lead the NHS Dental Hospital and the University of Leeds will appoint another individual as Dean of the University Dental School.

The Leeds Dental Institute (LDI) will continue to work cooperatively to support and deliver the strategic objectives of both the Trust and University. Likewise, the Trust and the University will continue to work in partnership to provide joint oversight and support of the LDI.

Both organisations wish to place on record their sincere thanks to Dr Kellett for the leadership that she has provided since 2003.

Dr Belfield, Medical Director from Leeds Hospitals, said: “Dr Kellett has led the academic, clinical and research teams to significant success and has been instrumental in creating a dental hospital in Leeds which is a state-of-the-art facility. She has laid the foundations of future innovation and opportunity. Though Margaret will be stepping back from leadership, I am delighted to say she has agreed to continue her work with patients in our restorative dental team.”
