Dr Carol E Barker

Members will be sorry to learn of the recent death of Dr Carol Barker, former Senior Lecturer in the Nuffield Institute.

Dr Barker joined the University as the first academic member of staff within the Nuffield Centre in 1979, which was then part of Social Policy and Health Services Studies, after she had been working with the health ministry in Mozambique. She was promoted in 1987 to Senior Lecturer. At this time, Carol Barker became the Head of the International Group within the Nuffield Institute, also serving as Acting Director between 1987 and 1989. She retired from the University in 2003.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday 8 November at 1.00pm at St Chads Parish Church, Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds, LS16 5JT. All are most welcome. After the funeral there will be a gathering at Headingley Enterprise and Arts Centre (Heart Centre) on Bennett Road, Headingley, Leeds, LS6 3HN, from 4.00-7.00pm where friends can meet, have refreshments and share memories of Carol.

In memory of Carol, the flag will be flown at half-mast on the Parkinson Building on Thursday.
