From Europe to America - a day of song
Staff are welcomed to a day of song as part of the University’s International Concert Series which will showcase music and poetry from around the globe on Sunday 14 October.
There will be a variety of performances throughout the day including:
Songs My Mother Taught Me
Adriana Festeu (mezzo soprano) Nico de Villiers (piano)
Dvořák, Korngold and Enescu Romanian-born Adriana Festeu is one of this country’s most promising young singers. Her programme ranges from Dvořák’s much loved Gypsy Songs to works by her compatriot, Enescu.

There will be a pre-concert talk by David Hoult at 9.45am in Lecture Theatre 1 to which admission is free.
Composers and Poets Forum
Student composers from universities across the region have joined forces with five poets to create completely new songs. Be a fly on the wall as they workshop them with a forum of experts.

Admission is free but tickets are required. You may dip in and out of the forum but are advised to keep your ticket with you at all times.
Dame Margaret Price Remembered
To celebrate the art of the late Dame Margaret Price, on of the world's greatest sopranos, many commercially unavailable recordings will be played, including songs by Schubert and Strauss, with the event being presented by John Pryce-Jones - a colleague from her days at Welsh National Opera.

Back to the Future - 20th century American song
Sarah Leonard (soprano) Stephen Gutman (piano)
American song from the immensely lyrical Barber, via the eccentric Charles Ives and John Cage's extended vocal techniques which were so fashionable in the 1960s, to the sharp wit and irony of Bolcom and Soundheim presented by two of today's leading exponents of contemporary repertoire.

Songs under the Magnifying Glass - the journey from paper to performance

A privileged opportunity to hear two talented students working on songs from the German and English repertoire with an exceptionally gifted and perceptive vocal coach and accompanist.

Composers and Poets Showcase
The world premiere of the new songs created by our composer and poet duos performed by young singers and pianists from the participating universities across the region.

Dichterliebe and the English Romantics
Benedict Nelson (baritone) Gary Matthewman (piano)
British baritone Benedict Nelson, one of the most exciting singers of his generation, sings Schumann's great masterpiece and some of the songs from the great flowering of English song in the 20th century.
At: 7.30-9.00pm

A pre-concert talk by George Kennaway will take place at 6.45pm in Lecture Theatre 1, to which admission is free.
