University victorious in Varsity rugby finale

The University was victorious on Wednesday in the 2012 Varsity rugby match against Leeds Metropolitan and drew 30-30 across all events, the first time in nine years that the Met have not won outright.

Teams from both Universities competed in 60 events throughout the day, showcasing their talents in a variety of sports from equestrian to the much anticipated men’s rugby, held at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium in the evening.

Over 10,000 fans filled the stadium and at kick off, the collated scores of the day’s matches were 28-28, with just four results to come in. By half time the overall score was 30-29 to the Met before the University’s Rugby Union team ended with a 27-11 victory over their Leeds Metropolitan counterparts, resulting in Leeds Varsity 2012 being drawn 30-30 – a first in the history of the annual event.

Well done to everyone who took part!
