Paralympics: first update

Find out how our Leeds Paralympians are getting on so far and which events are coming up this week.

Congratulations to alumna Claire Cashmore, who finished last in the final of the S9 Class 100m Butterfly but went on to secure a Silver medal in the 100m Breastroke on Saturday. She is competing in the SM9 Class 200m Individual Medley this Thursday at 9.40am along with the S9 100m Freestyle and 4x100 Medley Relay on Friday.

Medical student Kim Daybell won his preliminary match against Carlos Carbinatti in the Men's Singles Table Tennis winning three games to nil. Unfortunately Kim was narrowly defeated 3-2 in his second preliminary match that evening against China's Lian Hao and failed to qualify for the quarter finals.

Alumna Karen Darke is competing this week in the Women's Individual H 1-2 Time Trial on Thursday 6 September at 4.32pm and the Women's Individual H1-3 Road Race on Friday  7 September at 10.30am. This will be Karen's first Paralympic games after the introduction of her sport to the competition at Beijing in 2008 and having trained vigorously over the past four years, she's in with a real chance of taking a medal for Team GB.
