Going for gold: the Paralympics

The excitement doesn’t stop for London 2012 as this week welcomes the Paralympic Games which will see three of our alumni and students competing for a medal during the next fortnight.

University of Leeds alumna Claire Cashmore will compete in the Team GB Class S9 Swimming Today (30 August). This will be her third Olympics, after competing at Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008, across which she won three bronze medals – two in the S9 100m Backstroke and the other in the SM9 200m Individual Medley.  Since making her Paralympic debut, Claire has won individual medals at every major championship that she has competed in, giving high hopes that she’ll be on the podium again this year.

First year medical student Kim Daybell will be representing Team GB in the Class 10 Table Tennis preliminaries on Friday 31 August.  He is currently ranked ninth in the world and stands a real chance of taking home a medal.

We’ll keep you updated on how our athletes get on.
