Paul Glassell, Dr Philip Robinson and Janet Altman

Colleagues will be sorry to learn of the deaths of Paul Glassell, Dr Philip Robinson and Janet Altman this month.

Mr Paul Glassell, University of Leeds Security Officer, between 2007 and 2012 died on 9 August 2012.The funeral service will be held at 2.00pm on Friday 24 August 2012 at St Mary's Church, Leeds Road, Selby, YO8 4HS, followed at 3.00pm at York Crematorium, Bishopthorpe Road, York, YO23 2QD.  The flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in Paul’s memory on the day of the funeral.

We are sorry to report the death on 19 August 2012 of Dr Phil Robinson, Section of Ophthalmology and Neuroscience in the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine (LIMM). Dr Robinson had been with the University since Oct 1987.  The funeral details are not yet known but will be posted on the For Staff page as soon as available.

Janet Altman joined the then small team of interpreting tutors in 2001. She had a tremendous reputation as an EU conference interpreter and interpreter trainer. Janet helped to establish the reputation of the interpreting course in Leeds and her contribution as a trainer of high standing to MAITS/MACITS as well as the European Parliament summer schools had a tremendous impact on the way Leeds had come to be seen by EU institutions as the centre of excellence for interpreting training.

Janet's funeral will take place on Wednesday 22 August at 12 noon, at Abbey Lane Cemetery, Sheffield, S8. The family has requested no flowers.
