Excellent review for University performers

‘The Sun Is Not For Us’, a piece of theatre performed by University of Leeds students, has been given a 4* review by SGFringe after its stint at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The hour long piece, devised by Dr Ruru Li (School of Modern Languages and Cultures), is based on legendary Chinese dramatist Cao Yu’s four most famous plays, exploring love, hatred, adultery, incest, hope, frustration and struggle from a Chinese women’s perspective.

The production has been merited as ‘very engaging and attractive, where the music adds depth and resonance’ whilst the performers have been credited for ‘evocatively and effectively’ presenting the ‘complicated show’.

Once their stint at the Edinburgh Fringe comes to an end, the company will be taking the piece to Shanghai in the autumn.
