Going for Gold: end of week update

Find out how our Leeds Olympians have got on this week and what's in store for the weekend.

Student Jack Oliver competed in the Clean & Jerk men’s weightlifting on Wednesday, recording a personal best of 170kg and finishing in tenth place overall.

Team GB’s women’s hockey team are still doing fantastically well and have stayed at the top of their group after a 3-0 win against Belgium yesterday, with alumnus Ashleigh Ball securing their first goal.  They have 2 more games to play and will take on China tomorrow at 4pm.

Unfortunately the Team GB’s men’s water polo team, featuring student Ed Scott and alumnus Matt Holland aren’t doing so well having lost 13-7 to the USA yesterday, but we continue to admire their efforts considering they are up against all three teams who won medals at the Beijing Olympics. They play Hungary tomorrow at 6.20pm.

Today, alumnus Jonathan Hammond will compete in the men’s 50m Rifle Prone at 7pm.  Jonathan has a great chance of Olympics success having won Bronze, Silver and two Gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Also today, alumnus Rebecca Gallantree will be competing in the women's 3m springboard diving at 2.30pm.

Next week we see the much anticipated Brownlee brothers compete in the men's Triathlon so keep checking back here for updates on our Leeds Olympians.
