Professor Andy Gouldson named a 'Northern Champion'

Professor Andy Gouldson (School of Earth and Environment) has been listed as a 2012 ‘Northern Champion’ by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) North.

The Northern Champions list reveals a top list of ‘ones to watch’ for 2012, citing the most promising figures from the worlds of sport, politics, arts, business and education in the North of England.

Professor Gouldson was selected as one of ‘twelve for 2012’ from over 100 nominations and has been merited for his work which examines the relationship between the environment and economic development.

His work on low-carbon cities was voted one of the most transformative ideas at recent UN climate negotiations suggesting ways in which the decarbonisation of cities can stimulate economies by cutting energy bills, creating employment and tackling fuel poverty.
